RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. S# 139595. Bbl. 26" octagon. German silver blade Rocky Mtn. front sight with sporting rear sight. Full length magazine. Blue finished bbl & mag tube with case colored action. Style No. 2 factory engraving features a circular vignette of a whitetail buck on the right side. Left side has an oval scene of a running buck. Scenes are surrounded by arabesque scroll with fancy borders. Complementing scroll extends to the forearm cap. Forearm and "S" curved pistol grip stock of fancy walnut have style "A" factory checkering and crescent steel butt-plate. Mfg. In 1896. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube retain over 80% lightly faded original blue. Action shows traces of case colors with brighter colors visible on protected portions of the lever. Stocks show finish and checkering wear with scattered scratches & marks. The toe line has a series of marks that may be hand cut kill notches. Sound action. Bright bore retains strong rifling.
